Project Manager

As a household brand for the Belgian community and an established reference in the payments industry there is a large influx of project requests from both external partners and internal stakeholders for which our Project Managers are key. To further strengthen our team, we are looking for a Project Manager to be based in Brussels. This function reports to our Chief Operating Officer. Join our driven and enthusiastic team!
Main responsibilities
As end-to-end Project Manager, you are responsible for:
Certification/Recertification of Bancontact members and certificate holders
You manage the projects related to the onboarding of new partners/activation of new products by existing partners/required periodic recertifications. This can be on Acceptance side (i.e. PSPs, Acquirers and Acquiring Processors) or on Issuing side (i.e. new Issuers and Issuing Processors).
Some of the tasks that are typically associated with these projects are:
- Guiding the partners in their implementation of Bancontact and help them understand the technical aspects of our products and protocols
- Managing the certification planning & process, including follow up of the results
- Coordinating the set-up of connectivity & communication aspects
- Organising the security set-up & security audit together with the Bancontact Security Officer
- Supervising card & POS terminal certifications together with the Bancontact Certification Manager
- Supporting the Business Development colleagues in their commercial efforts, and specifically in determining the best fit between partners needs and existing solutions
- In those cases where a go-to-market track needs to be foreseen, coordinating with the Marketing colleagues to align technical and communication tasks
- Communicating internally about status, impediments and successes, and activate internal stakeholders as needed.
- For the most complex cases, after the aftercare period perform a handover to the operations team, so that follow up of issues is ensured after project is closed.
Introduction of new products or services
When the introduction of new products requires extensive end-to-end coordination, as project manager you might be tasked to manage the set up ‘in project mode’, from the initial request to the final delivery of the solution. In this role:
- You gather the input in terms of requirements and make sure that all the relevant stakeholders are actively involved, so that your project has a clear scope that meets the original goal;
- You set up the governance of your project, which you steer as needed to align on progress, but also to regularly communicate both on content and process aspects;
- You take charge of the project from initiation until delivery:
- You coordinate, organize and monitor the various activities within the project taking into account the priorities and timelines;
- You coordinate and activate the internal and external stakeholders to plan respective efforts, but also to mitigate risks, deliver input, find solutions to potential issues;
- You ensure the quality of the deliverables in order to provide solutions that meet the needs of the company and of the partner;
- You participate actively in the certification and production validation phases and coordinate the participants and activities, as needed.
- You have the skills and experience to help with the direct resolution of issues, and you know how and when to activate your stakeholders to obtain the needed support to move further;
- Your project does not end with deployment. You are responsible for the aftercare period until a clean move to Business as Usual can be executed;
- You will become a knowledge centre of the products or services offered by the company and will actively help the Business Development team during presales efforts with partners.
Skills and Mindset
- Master degree or equivalent proven experience
- 5+ years in a project manager role in the payment industry
- Good knowledge of multiple relevant fields of the card payment industry (card, terminal, ATM, e-commerce, Acquiring, Issuing, mobile payment, …)
- Previous relevant experience in coordination of multiple external stakeholders is strong plus
- Experience with knowledge management/planning tools
- Fluent in English is a must (written and spoken), Preferably bilingual NL/FR, one between NL/FR is a must
- Quick learning curve – your projects may be multi-faceted, from basic timeline management to technically complex implementations. You might not be an expert of everything, but have the interest to learn and ability to absorb information fast
- Synthesis skills – you are able to condense details into clear and direct language, you are able to explain key concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Structure – you can easily structure a multitude of information both for yourself and others
- Planning – you see the end goal and manage to organize the tasks to meet such goal effectively and on time
- Discipline – you are the gatekeeper of your project. You make sure you gather the input you need when you need it, you are proactive and ensure progress in the execution phase
- Proactive communication – you communicate openly, activate your stakeholders and are not afraid to discuss any topic. You have excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and are able to connect with people on a personal level
- Stress resilience – you keep your cool even in the most difficult moments, always remain professional and are able to handle different projects in parallel
- Business feeling – you understand how you project (even the more technical one) is connected to a business goal for the company, and you know how to share this with third parties and to integrate this in your communication
- Strong flexibility – every day can be different, and processes will evolve; you are open to adapt to changing needs
